ctober 22, 2017. this is it the final 10 miles of the NYC Marathon and we’re running it to get an understanding of what the last 10 miles will feel like. We’re beginning on 59th Street and 1st ave and heading north to The Bronx and back into Manhattan down 5th Ave. into the park and to the finish line.
Since we are running along city streets everyone is to obey traffic signals and be alert to approaching vehicles. This is not a speed run but a run to become familiar with the terrain of the last 10 miles. many experienced marathoners have said that the emotions along 1st ave from 59th street north can cause you to run too fast making it difficult to finish strong. Also runners who do not run 1st ave smart will find the 125th st bridge a bigger challenge than the 59th St bridge.
There will be an aid stations on 116th at 1st ave, 116th st and 5th ave and in the Bronx with water, Gatorade and fruits plus a recovery bag at the end of the run.
Our 10 Mile Training Run will have the following:
- Pacers from 8 minutes to 14 minutes
- Pacers who have ran NYC Marathon that can provide course and race day preparation advice.
- All pacers wear a reflective vest so they can be spotted.
- All runners are given a map of the course.
- Baggage check is available
- 3 aid stations along the course providing water, Gatorade, fruits, dried fruits and chocolates
- A recovery bag for every runner at the end that contains water, chocolate milk and fruit.
